Promoting archaeology in the counties of Beds, Bucks, Northants and Oxfordshire

Are you an amateur or professional interested in archaeology in the South Midlands?
Do you wish you knew more about what was being discovered in and around your local area?
Would it help you to know what others in your field of interest are doing?

Then think about joining us! We have so much to offer you.
  • Annual journal - South Midlands Archaeology - with up to date reports on the year's excavations and discoveries. An index of articles in previous volumes of SMA can be found here

  • Twice yearly newsletter with details of meetings of archaeological societies and groups in the four counties. The  NEW 2009 Autumn newsletter can be downloaded here (727kb pdf)

  • Annual conference held in each of the four counties in turn - usually held in the spring, the conference has a reputation for outstanding lectures from expert speakers on their recent work and research. There is also a smaller conference held along with our AGM, normally held in the Autumn. Ranging from prehistoric to post-medieval, recent conference themes have included:

Ritual & Religion
Towns & Villages
Wood, Brick, Stone & Tile
Minster Churches and Royal Estates
